The Strongest Sentinel (1): It’s better to break up early and live our own lives.
This was a very spacious house. The house had no windows, and the walls on all four sides were made of cast iron, making it look extremely sturdy.
In the room, there were sofas and other furniture around the edges. In the middle of the room stood a man in his thirties, with a scarred face, covered in blood, and exuding a strong aura of hostility.
Behind this man stood several others, equally stained with blood. They exuded an aura of ruthless intent, giving the first impression that they were not to be trifled with, and the second impression was that they were extremely not to be trifled with.
The man standing in front of everyone was named Zhou Qinghao. He was the strongest sentinel in the world today and also the commander-in-chief of Base One.
At this moment, he, along with his warriors, had just finished a battle and once again repelled a wave of mutated beasts.
At this moment, the people outside were celebrating their victory, but Zhou Qinghao and his confidant stood in this room with faces as dark as water, like statues.
Suddenly, the steel wall in front of them cracked open, revealing a door. Immediately after, two young men dressed exactly like Zhou Qinghao and his group came in, dragging a slightly plump middle-aged man with them.
Zhou Qinghao’s face was already as cold as ice, and upon seeing the chubby middle-aged man, his expression grew even colder.
The middle-aged man was unceremoniously thrown to the ground by the person who brought him in.
He cried out in pain, then got up from the ground and angrily rebuked Zhou Qinghao: “Zhou Qinghao, what do you think you’re doing? Don’t think you can act lawlessly just because you’re strong!”
Zhou Qinghao said nothing and kicked him in the leg.
This person was kicked out, and at the same time, a clear “crack” sound was heard—this middle-aged man’s leg was broken by Zhou Qinghao’s kick.
“Ah! It hurts!” The middle-aged man screamed, “Zhou Qinghao, are you crazy? You should be sent for humane destruction!”
Zhou Qinghao said, “After the injured soldiers were sent to the rear, they didn’t even receive treatment. It’s one thing for the guides not to show up, but some soldiers’ mental stabilizers are completely ineffective… What are you trying to do? How much money did you take?”
The middle-aged man said, “I have already done my best to allocate medical resources, but it’s just not enough! Zhou Qinghao, what do you mean by having someone bring me here? Are you planning to ignore the government and seize power for yourself?”
Zhou Qinghao’s expression remained cold, but the warriors behind him were furious, their eyes bloodshot with hatred.
Just now, they held back the beast tide.
But the battle was too brutal, and they lost too many people.
Among these people, many originally did not have to die.
As long as the base’s medical resources could keep up, as long as the mental stabilizers provided by the base were effective, as long as those guides were willing to calm the soldiers.
But some people, for the sake of power and money, didn’t care about their lives at all.
“Take me to the hospital quickly!” The middle-aged man, while screaming in agony, did not forget to make a demand: “You can’t do this to me!”
This middle-aged man was a high-ranking official in the base; his father was the governor of Base One, and his partner was the president of the Guide Protection Association.
Zhou Qinghao was the commander-in-chief of Base One, overseeing the army of Base One, but the position of the governor was no less significant than his.
The base also had comprehensive laws; he could not abuse private punishment within the base.
But Zhou Qinghao knew very well that if he let this person go, in the end, this person would not face any punishment.
This person and the people behind him would only choose a few scapegoats to go to prison as an explanation to him.
Moreover, after he had retreated once, those who had been like hyenas, waiting to tear him apart after he fell, would only become more aggressive, targeting him and his subordinates even more ruthlessly.
He could not back down.
He knew his condition was very bad and he wouldn’t live for many more years.
And before he died, power must be in his hands.
Only in this way could he arrange his subordinates properly and secure a way for them to survive.
“You treat me like this, my dad won’t let you off!” The chubby, pampered middle-aged man, who had been living a life of luxury, panicked and brought up his father when Zhou Qinghao remained silent and cold-faced.
At the same time, someone came in from outside and said to Zhou Qinghao, “Commander, the governor has brought people over.”
The middle-aged man looked relieved, his eyes revealing a sense of joy.
At that moment, Zhou Qinghao walked over to him, who was lying on the ground with a broken leg, and then stepped on his arm.
The familiar “crack” sound rang out, and his arm was instantly broken.
“Ah!” The middle-aged man screamed in agony, his eyes bursting with intense hatred—once he got out, he would make Zhou Qinghao pay!
Zhou Qinghao treated him this way, he must make Zhou Qinghao pay the price!
He believed he could.
This time, he dealt a heavy blow to Zhou Qinghao. Many of Zhou Qinghao’s subordinates died in the recently concluded battle, and after this defeat, Zhou Qinghao was severely weakened!
He broke his arms and legs to exchange for these, and it was worth it.
As long as his father took him for treatment in time, he would be lively and energetic by tomorrow!
Many thoughts flashed through the middle-aged man’s mind, and at that moment, Zhou Qinghao stepped forward and stomped on his chest.
Realizing what Zhou Qinghao was trying to do, he exclaimed, “No…”
But his shout had no effect at all; when Zhou Qinghao stepped down, he still crushed his chest cavity.
He could feel his ribs being crushed one by one, and the air mixed with blood surged out of his mouth and nose.
Zhou Qinghao had gone crazy, he was just a madman!
He shouldn’t have offended this lunatic!
He was thinking this when he saw a foot coming towards his face…
Once again, there was a “crack,” and blood splattered everywhere.
Today’s medical technology was very advanced. As long as the brain was not damaged and the person was placed in a medical pod in time, they could be saved.
But if the brain was shattered, it couldn’t be saved.
Zhou Qinghao looked at his blood-stained shoes and thought of the soldiers who were injured while fighting against the beast tide.
When they were sent to the rear, they were still shouting that as soon as they came out of the medical pod they would return to the battlefield and kill the mutated beasts.
Some of them had broken arms, some had broken legs, but none of them cried out in pain. Instead, they were all focused on healing their injuries as soon as possible so they could continue fighting.
What was the result?
There were so many medical pods in the base, but less than a third of them were being used for his soldiers!
The medical personnel also failed to arrive on time, so no one was there to provide basic treatment to the injured soldiers.
Those soldiers went to the rear with hope, thinking they would soon return to the battlefield, only to be left to suffer in agony.
There were also mental stabilizers.
All warriors were sentinels, and their mental strength could easily become problematic. Without the help of a guide to sort it out, only mental stabilizers could alleviate their mental confusion.
On the battlefield, some soldiers experience mental issues after prolonged combat, and just as they were about to lose control, they injected themselves with a mental stabilizer and continued fighting.
However, they still lost control because the mental stabilizers they used were fake.
Zhou Qinghao went to the battlefield at the age of twelve, killed countless mutated beasts, and witnessed countless deaths.
He had long since learned to face the departure of those around him with composure.
But if they died without any value, he would still be angry.
He also had to give an account to those warriors who shed blood and sacrificed their lives for the base.
The noise from outside indicated that the governor should be coming in soon.
Zhou Qinghao glanced at the corner of the house without leaving a trace, signaling his subordinates to move the body on the ground.
Just now, when he was killing someone, his little boyfriend was hiding in the corner, watching the whole thing.
When he brought someone back, he had already discovered the existence of his little boyfriend, but he didn’t drive him away.
First, he had a ton of things to deal with, and second, he wanted to scare his little boyfriend a bit.
This person, while dating him, actually went after a guide, even stealing things from his house to please that guide. Such audacity!
He didn’t know if his behavior today would scare his boyfriend away.
It was actually quite good that he got scared off; it saved him from being troubled and anxious, constantly worrying about gains and losses.
Zhou Qinghao still had a lot to do. He no longer got distracted by his little boyfriend and strode out.
And behind him, the little boyfriend who had been hiding in the shadows and watching the whole time, rolled his eyes and fainted as soon as he left the room.
If he hadn’t just gone to the bathroom, he might have wet his pants.
Outside, the sound of an argument could be heard, but inside this room, it was very quiet.
Not long after, the young man who had fainted suddenly opened his eyes.
The fear in his eyes had vanished, leaving only curiosity. He rolled over, stood up from the ground, and began to survey everything around him.
Gu Juntian had time-traveled.
He didn’t know who he was, didn’t know what he was doing before he traveled through time, only knew that this body originally didn’t belong to him.
Fortunately, he possessed the original owner’s memories, which allowed him to understand this world and live well in the original owner’s identity.
The world he traveled to was a wasteland filled with danger.
Many, many years ago, the environment of the planet he lived on continued to deteriorate, becoming uninhabitable for humans.
Although humanity had been striving to explore space, it had never found a suitable planet for habitation and could only continue living on this planet.
The drastically changed environment and the nuclear radiation that filled the entire world made it difficult for ordinary people to adapt. Eventually, humanity moved into underground cities to live.
And in the wild, those wild beasts and insects had mutated in the harsh environment, becoming mutated beasts.
The mutated beasts would hunt humans, and humans needed the mutated beasts as food, leading to a prolonged battle between the two sides.
Many mutated beasts had evolved from insects and reproduced quickly. Although humans possessed firearms, they still suffered continuous defeats when facing the endless swarms of locusts and ants.
At that time, the most terrifying thing for humans was the mutated rats. They would swarm in groups and could even dig through the barriers of underground cities, devouring the entire population of a city.
There was a time when humanity fell into despair, feeling that they were destined for extinction.
Fortunately, just at that moment, a portion of humanity underwent mutations and awakened as Sentinels.
Sentinels had strong mental powers, keen senses, and could perceive various types of information that ordinary humans could not.
Ordinary humans had no chance against mutated beasts, but the sentinels’ reactions might be even faster than the mutated beasts.
But sentinels also had many drawbacks. For example, because their senses were too acute, their brains could become overwhelmed with excessive information, leading to mental confusion.
After people awaken as Sentinels, even getting a good night’s sleep often became a luxury.
Also because of this, many sentinels had a bad temper.
The sentinel, whose brain could not bear it and whose mental strength was completely in chaos, would still lose control.
In the eyes of the out-of-control sentinels, the world was no longer the same as the ordinary world. They lost their sanity, attacking their comrades, and eventually dying after being completely exhausted.
Sentinels usually awaken before the age of eighteen, and the first batch of sentinels didn’t live past thirty.
Fortunately, just at that moment, humanity awakened another group—guides.
The guide’s five senses were the same as an ordinary person’s, and their spiritual sea was very calm.
They couldn’t fight the mutated beasts, but they could sort out the sentinels’ chaotic mental power and build mental barriers for the sentinels so they could sleep well.
Sentinels and guides were a complementary pair. If a sentinel formed a mental bond with a guide, as long as their guide was alive, they would never have to worry about their mental powers going awry.
They could have an ordinary life while possessing superhuman combat abilities.
It goes without saying how important a guide was to a sentinel.
Also, because a mental bond required completely opening oneself up to the other person, in some cases, it could be even more intimate than a physical bond. Therefore, sentinels and guides who had formed a mental bond generally became partners.
Nowadays, people of the same sex could also use technological means to conceive offspring, so Guides and Sentinels were considered a match made in heaven. After all, once they became a couple, they generally did not betray each other.
This was originally a good thing, but the number of guides was less than the sentinels!
At first, the number of guides was actually similar to that of sentinels, but later, scientists invented a genetic serum that could awaken ordinary people into sentinels.
Some sentinels even raided underage guides.
Although guides had the same five senses as ordinary people, they generally had abundant emotions and could sense the emotions of others. Some guides, unable to tolerate a controlled life, began to rebel.
They attacked the sentinel while merging their minds with it, choosing to perish together with the sentinel.
Who knows if it was because they saw the tragic fate of the guides, but fewer and fewer people were awakening to become guides.
The number of guides sharply decreased, and the sentinels were in a panic.
Fifty years ago, the Guide Protection Association was established and various laws to protect guides were enacted.
Nowadays, guides made up five percent of the total population, sentinels made up thirty-five percent, and the remaining sixty percent were ordinary people.
The status of guides was also becoming increasingly elevated. They had been supported by the base since childhood and could live worry-free in the base for their entire lives. They could also choose a powerful sentinel as a partner, leading a prosperous life.
Of course, this was the original owner’s idea. In Gu Juntian’s view, those protected guides were like caged canaries, equally without freedom.
Fortunately, he was not a guide, but a sentinel.
The original owner of the body that Gu Juntian traveled into was also named Gu Juntian, and he was a low-e sentinel at Base One.
The original owner’s father came from an average family, but he awakened as a low-level sentinel thanks to gene drugs, joined the military, and became a guard warrior at Base One.
The original owner’s father knew that he was mediocre in every aspect and could never win the favor of a guide, so he never even dreamed of starting a family with one.
He and the original owner’s mother were childhood sweethearts, and they married early and even had the original owner. To outsiders, they seemed to be living a very happy life.
But in reality, it was not so.
The original owner’s father was a low-level sentinel. Even though his mental power was unstable, it wasn’t as severe as that of high-level sentinels. As long as he continued using the mental stabilizer, he could live to his sixties or seventies.
But his keen senses made it impossible for him to sleep well, enjoy good food, or live a quiet life… His temper became increasingly irritable, and he couldn’t help but lose his temper over trivial matters with his wife and children. After losing his temper, he would feel guilty.
Probably feeling that life was meaningless, eight years ago, when the original owner was ten years old, he celebrated his birthday with the original owner and said to him, “Dad will never lose his temper with you again.”
He also told his wife, “If I ever die, go find an ordinary person who loves you and marry him.”
Then, he went to battle with a beaming smile and died in the beast tide.
It was said that in that battle, he fearlessly charged into the most powerful beast in the beast tide, saving his comrades while also giving the already emerging Zhou Qinghao the opportunity to find and kill that beast.
After the original owner’s father died, the original owner’s mother received a medal and a large sum of compensation.
Before the original owner’s father passed away, the original owner’s mother did not have a good relationship with her husband, and the original owner also did not like her father.
After all, his father was unpredictable, like a ticking time bomb ready to explode at any moment.
Sometimes, the original owner would just make a little noise, and the original owner’s father would fly into a rage.
But when the original owner’s father passed away, they began to miss this man.
The resources in the underground city were scarce, and the lives of ordinary people were very difficult. They could live a worry-free and happy life thanks to the original owner’s father.
Moreover, the original owner’s father used to have a good temper; it was only after he awakened as a sentinel that his temper worsened!
The original owner’s mother did not remarry and always missed the original owner’s father, constantly telling the original owner about the horrors of the outside world.
If the original owner’s father hadn’t gone to fight, even if he was a sentinel, his spiritual sea wouldn’t be that bad.
Moreover, he died at the hands of a strange beast, and his body was not even whole…
The world outside the base was really too dangerous!
As a result, the original owner became one of the very few people who did not want to be a sentinel or go to the battlefield.
Unfortunately, when he turned eighteen, after injecting the gene serum, just like his father, he awakened as a low-level sentinel.
Base One did not have a mandatory requirement for sentinels to enlist, so the original owner did not enlist. However, even so, his keen senses brought him a lot of discomfort.
Since awakening, the original owner had been unable to eat well or sleep properly.
The original owner wanted to live the life he used to, and to live that kind of life, he had to merge with a guide.
The original owner’s mother, after her son became a sentinel, also wholeheartedly wanted to find a guide for her son so that he could live a normal life.
She didn’t want her husband’s tragedy to repeat itself in her son.
In this world, the levels of sentinels, from highest to lowest, were S, A, B, C, D, E, and the same went for guides.
Zhou Qinghao was the strongest sentinel today, believed to have reached SS level, and this level had only him.
And the original owner, like his father, was a D-level sentinel.
Nowadays, even B-level sentinels, if they lacked abilities and had no support at home, might not be able to find a guide, let alone low-level sentinels like the original owner!
Of course, there were still “inspirational” stories of D-level sentinels successfully bonding with guides, but those sentinels were basically from wealthy and influential families.
If the original owner’s father was the governor, the original owner would definitely be able to find a guide.
In short, the original owner could never have the opportunity to merge with a guide.
The original owner was extremely dejected, and it was at this moment that the commander-in-chief of their base, Zhou Qinghao, the powerful sentinel who could kill mutated beasts as easily as cutting vegetables, came to the school where the original owner studied to give a speech.
Because the original owner’s father was a soldier who sacrificed himself for the base, and the original owner was not only handsome but also had excellent grades, the school arranged for the original owner to host Zhou Qinghao.
It was during the reception process that the original owner noticed Zhou Qinghao occasionally looking at him.
The original owner had just come of age and had never been in a relationship, but his family background was considered quite good among the ordinary people in the underground city. He was handsome, and many people had always liked him.
The way those people looked at him was very similar to how Zhou Qinghao looked at him.
Zhou Qinghao definitely had a crush on him!
Even if Zhou Qinghao didn’t like him, trying to please Zhou Qinghao wasn’t a bad thing!
The original owner started to get close to Zhou Qinghao, and after discovering that Zhou Qinghao didn’t reject him, he even began to pursue Zhou Qinghao.
Zhou Qinghao was the strongest sentinel, and there was simply no guide who could bond with him. He had never looked for a guide either, so he didn’t have many years left to live!
If he married Zhou Qinghao, when Zhou Qinghao died, he could inherit Zhou Qinghao’s estate!
Zhou Qinghao had so much money. Inheriting Zhou Qinghao’s fortune, he would become a millionaire and would definitely be able to find a guide!
As long as he endured humiliation and bore the burden for a few years, he could achieve a bright future.
The original owner thought it through well, and he succeeded.
After pursuing Zhou Qinghao for three months, the original owner confessed to Zhou Qinghao.
Zhou Qinghao agreed.
The original owner just became Zhou Qinghao’s boyfriend like that.
Zhou Qinghao treated the original owner very well, gave the original owner a lot of money, and did not force the original owner to sleep with him as the original owner had imagined.
Probably because Zhou Qinghao treated the original owner too well, the original owner’s courage grew bolder and bolder. He even took the money Zhou Qinghao gave him to start pursuing a low-level guide.
The original owner’s thoughts were very simple. Zhou Qinghao was already in his thirties and could die at any time. If he started pursuing someone now, once Zhou Qinghao died, he could immediately marry the guide. How wonderful!
In order to pursue that guide, the original owner stole some things from Zhou Qinghao’s house and gave them to the other person.
And today, the original owner appeared in this room to steal something.
But what the original owner didn’t expect was that before he could even steal anything, Zhou Qinghao returned and killed someone right in front of him, causing the original owner, who had never participated in a fight before, to faint from fear.
Then, he crossed over.
Gu Juntian recalled the setting of this world and couldn’t help but feel a surge of excitement.
He liked to fight, he wanted to kill the mutated beasts!
The original owner was unwilling to strive on their own, only thinking of relying on others. This was really unacceptable!
A real man should work hard and carve out his own piece of sky!
The rank of a D-level sentinel was indeed very low, but the technological level of this world was not low. To prevent the environment from continuing to deteriorate and to prevent mutated beasts from becoming stronger, humans signed a contract to no longer use weapons containing radiation. However, they still had many conventional weapons at their disposal.
On the battlefield, experienced D-level sentinels wielding hot weapons could kill far more mutated beasts than inexperienced A-level sentinels!
Moreover, it was not uncommon for sentinels to level up during battle.
Even if the original owner was a low-level sentinel, if he dared to fight and earn military achievements, he completely had the opportunity to be promoted and then had a low-level guide.
However, the original owner only thought about getting something for nothing and actually planned to sell his body for money.
Later, the original owner did even more outrageous things.
Gu Juntian did not intend to follow the original owner’s path.
Given the current situation… Gu Juntian planned to use the excuse of being scared by Zhou Qinghao to break up with him, and then enlist in the army to kill mutated beasts.
Of course, he joined the army to kill the strange beasts, not to get a guide.
He is not interested in dating and does not want to marry the guide.
He simply wanted to become stronger.
He wanted to become stronger than Zhou Qinghao!
This was impossible for the original owner, but for him, it was hopeful.
His mental strength was much stronger than the original.
It was decided, break up, and then get stronger!
Gu Juntian felt that breaking up with Zhou Qinghao must be put on the agenda as soon as possible.
The original owner was afraid of being discovered by Zhou Qinghao, so he was very cautious when pursuing that guide and still hadn’t confessed.
But he went to see that guide every day, not only giving him a lot of money but also stealing Zhou Qinghao’s things to give to him. Anyone with eyes could see his feelings for that guide.
If Zhou Qinghao found out about this, he definitely wouldn’t let him off.
In that case, it would be better to break up sooner and each live well.

I wonder if it will be a quick confession or not this arc, cause haohao should be the most like his og personality so would he be more willing to admit his feelings, or will he be more confused cause he will want to fight him?
Thx for the chp! 🙂
