Doomsday run (14): Ugly Rejection
The mutant was indeed moving very fast, and many soldiers on the scene could not catch it with their naked eyes, but it could not escape Xia Ruize’s mental detection.
The moment Xia Ruize discovered the enemy, he first reminded his teammates in the heart net, so Cheng Huaiqian’s magic energy and Gao Hexuan’s deceleration code took the lead in attacking the mutant who was unaware of his exposure.
The mutant who wanted to play tricks on humans by relying on his strength was shot by Xia Ruize’s arrow, and his first reaction was to retreat in shock.
Being able to emerge as a mutant, this monster was not short of caution, and it never underestimated humans.
Unfortunately, it had been locked by Cheng Huaiqian’s magic energy and Xia Ruize’s mental power, and could not escape the two’s detection range. It was also hit by Gao Hexuan’s deceleration code, and its own proud speed was restricted. It was soon caught up and surrounded by Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian.
The mutant that was running at high speed suddenly stopped, and stared at Cheng Huaiqian who was blocking the passage ahead with its blood-red eyes filled with brutality. It then turned around and looked at Xia Ruize who was blocking the retreat route behind, and a human-like alert emotion was revealed in its blood-red eyes.
Being surrounded by humans was a rare experience for it, and its intuition told it that the two humans blocking it were dangerous.
It was also the first time that Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian observed with their own eyes this monster that was feared by the research base. The mutant was different from the lower-level aliens, high-level aliens and super aliens. The mutant was only a little over two meters tall and did not win by its “huge” body.
But the mutant’s muscles were full and tight, no longer looking like the rotting flesh of a low-level zombie. The muscles were wrapped in a layer of tight black skin that even glows.
It seemed that it had left the category of “monster” and was approaching a “Strange person”. Only its sharp claws, sharp fangs and blood-red eyes remind it of the difference between it and humans.
Cheng Huaiqian turned his wrist and made a beautiful sword flower with the longsword in his hand. He looked at the alert mutant, smiled casually, and called Xia Ruize:
“You help me plunder the enemy, and I’ll try to see if there’s anything worth taking away.”
As soon as he finished speaking, Cheng Huaiqian rushed over towards the mutant.
The mutant was fast, but Cheng Huaiqian was even faster. The man and the monster were entangled in a fight, and their bodies were so fast that ordinary humans could not see them clearly. All they could hear were the harsh sounds of weapons and claws colliding and the mutant’s miserable roars.
In just over ten seconds, the man and the monster had bumped into each other more than ten times, and a pile of black minced meat appeared on the ground.
The mutant didn’t actually feel any pain when its body was cut by the sharp sword, but being at a disadvantage made it furious and it rushed towards Cheng Huaiqian even more frantically. However, its speed was not as fast as Cheng Huaiqian, its strength was not as great as Cheng Huaiqian’s, and its sideways attacks were not as sophisticated as Cheng Huaiqian’s. Every attack was in vain, and it could only injure itself without being able to hurt the hateful human being.
After another vigorous attack, the mutant did not turn around to continue attacking, but rushed towards the passage behind Cheng Huaiqian. It turned out that it wanted to escape because it saw that the situation was not right.
However, it unexpectedly crashed into a transparent wall, and the already shattered monster was rushed back at an even faster speed.
“He can run away. He has some brains.”
Xia Ruize pointed his finger, and a transparent telekinetic cage completely enveloped the fallen mutant. No matter how hard it struggled, it could not escape the confinement of the narrow cage.
After taking a closer look, Xia Ruize shook his head, his face full of rejection, “It’s too ugly, I don’t want it.”
Xia Ruize’s [Charming Creature] skill was upgraded as his bloodline was upgraded, and he could subdue powerful pets with higher intelligence and greater strength, such as the mutant in front of him.
But Xia Ruize thought the mutant was too ugly and didn’t even want to give it a try. Cheng Huaiqian released [Devil’s Coercion] nonchalantly. He didn’t care about his pet’s appearance, as long as it had good strength.
As Cheng Huaiqian moved, the struggling mutant movements gradually slowed down, until he finally squatted down obediently and stopped struggling. Xia Ruize then released the restrictions on him.
Cheng Huai grabbed the seriously injured mutant and brought it back to the pet space, letting it recuperate, and then returned to the laboratory with Xia Ruize.
The laboratory was still in chaos. Soldiers from various bases who had been deceived and sent thousands of miles away to die, angrily surrounded the guards of the research base and demanded an explanation, clamoring to leave.
Of course the guards were unwilling to let anyone leave at the last minute. The researchers’ experiment had not yet been completed, and they needed fighters to fend off monsters that might emerge. So they blocked the entrance to prevent anyone from leaving. The conflict between the two sides became increasingly intense, and finally a small-scale physical conflict occurred.
The reason why the area was small was that most people still maintained basic rationality and knew that the most important thing at the moment was to guard against enemies that might appear at any time. Only four or five of the most emotional people fought with the guards, while the others suppressed their anger and watched coldly without anyone stepping forward to help break up the fight.
Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian walked in from the entrance at this moment of chaos.
In addition to Gao Hexuan, several other people noticed the two people behaving abnormally, such as Dong Zi and Qin Feng, who always paid attention to them.
Team leader Liu Jie, whose two fangs were exposed when he smiled, had a face as cold as frost. He was nervously paying attention to the situation on the field. He was the first to notice the two people who seemed to be sneaking away, and immediately came over and whispered:
“You two are killing yourselves if you run away at this time!”
“Just take a look, just take a look.”
Cheng Huaiqian answered in a relaxed tone and smiled at Liu Jie, which made Liu Jie laugh so hard that his hair stood on end. How could he still laugh at a time like this?
After a few more minutes, the chaos in the laboratory was finally suppressed by the guards. The angry troublemakers lay on the floor gasping for breath, while the guards on the other side calmed down their breath, looking listless, and did not take advantage of the situation to attack.
The guards came to die willingly, realizing that their lives were coming to an end and they did not have the energy to care about too many things.
The lab fell silent, and everyone’s expressions were grim. In the silence, everyone noticed something unusual. Where was the enemy? Where was the attack? Why hadn’t it come yet?
Amidst the confusion, someone turned his gaze to Xia Ruize, who had issued an advance warning when the enemy attacked last time, but unexpectedly found that Xia Ruize was chatting with Cheng Huaiqian leaning on the research equipment in the corner. Looking at their relaxed postures, they did not look like they were in desperate situations at all.
In this strange atmosphere of vigilance and anxiety, everyone waited for more than an hour, until the researchers completed the experiment and sent the data back to the research base, but there was still no attack.
“retreat!”
No matter how confused he was, the captain could only hold back and issue new orders. He then took the lead and walked in front, leading everyone out with the idea of being the first to warn others of any incident.
But until everyone carefully walked out of the abandoned Halls Research Base building, got on the truck they came in by, and drove a long distance away from the Halls Research Base, they did not encounter any attack.
Things went much more smoothly than planned, leaving those in the know with many questions in their heads. Only when the two guards sent to investigate the other two truck groups brought back the news that their teammates had been wiped out, did they confirm with chills that there were indeed horrible monsters hidden in the Hall Research Base.
But inexplicably, their group did not suffer a fatal attack, and was able to complete the mission safely and successfully evacuate the dangerous area, as if by divine help.
No matter how many question marks there were in their heads, the trucks rushed towards the distance at full speed, as if they were afraid that they would be left behind if they drove too slowly.
Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian on the roof of the car were concentrating on killing zombies to accumulate life energy. They seemed to be unaware of the inquiring eyes of team leader Liu Jie, and did not respond to Dong Zi’s silent approach and flattery.
There was less than one-third of the time left in this mission world. Their physical fitness had made gratifying progress by absorbing life energy. But they couldn’t relax in this final period of time. How could they be content without squeezing out all the benefits?
On the way back, the four remaining trucks from this convoy met more than ten trucks from another convoy. Upon learning that the mission had been completed, the guards from the other convoy were shocked and contacted the research base overnight. After confirming that there was no need to go to the Hall research base again, the two convoys merged into one and returned together.
Although they couldn’t understand why the mutant hiding in the dark didn’t attack the remaining people, the guards, who were determined to die, would not refuse to complete the mission and survive.
Only the team leader Liu Jie had some doubts in his heart and couldn’t help but pay close attention to Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian. He always felt that the two people who had disappeared for a while were hiding some secrets.
After reporting his thoughts, the captain of the fleet felt a shudder in his heart, and looked at Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian with a curious look.
There were more and more private discussions in the team, and more and more people were looking at Xia Ruize and the other two inquiringly, and approaching them to inquire about the news. Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian were overwhelmed, so they discussed it and came up with a new idea.
There was only one day left before returning to the research base. The atmosphere in the convoy was relaxed. After a night of traveling, the convoy stopped to rest in the early morning. The team members who had been staying in the carriage all night got off to get some fresh air.
Liu Jie, who had just stretched a few times, soon noticed something unusual. He counted his team members several times, but still couldn’t find the three most familiar ones.
“What about Xia Ruize’s team?”
Liu Jie anxiously asked his other team members, but they were even more confused than him. They looked around and said they didn’t notice that the person was missing.
Liu Jie had no choice but to report the disappearance of his team members. The captain took it very seriously and abnormally delayed the departure time of the convoy and sent people to search around.
Of course, in the end, nothing was found. Three such big men suddenly disappeared right under everyone’s noses.
The captain frowned, and all kinds of bad thoughts came to his mind. He wanted to find the three people who ran away, but there were still researchers in the convoy, and the original virus samples brought back from the Hall base. Sending them back to the base safely was more important than finding those three people.
After a fruitless search, the captain had no choice but to gather his troops and continue his journey home.
It was no wonder that the captain couldn’t find anyone. Xia Ruize, Cheng Huaiqian and Gao Hexuan had actually left the convoy the night before, leaving behind only an illusion to deceive people. It was naturally impossible for him to find them after he remembered to look for them after the illusion disappeared.
The reason for leaving without saying goodbye was actually very simple. The search mission of rushing thousands of miles to find the research base had been completed. The next major task would definitely be to huddle in the cave to conduct research, and to spare no energy to investigate what happened in the Hall research base.
