Doomsday Run (11): Curious

The restaurant was tall and bright, with warm yellow and bright white lights intertwined, reflecting the clean metal tables in the restaurant. More importantly, as soon as they entered the restaurant, the aroma of the food filled their noses, and many people subconsciously inhaled hard.

A guard came forward and ordered everyone to sit in five areas according to the base. Fortunately, the restaurant that previously served the entire base was large enough, and everyone was still free to sit down.

No one came out to explain, and the restaurant’s back-office staff began to serve dishes. Bowls of dishes were brought out. Not only did they have fragrant meat, but there were also fresh green leafy vegetables. It was really shocking to people who hadn’t eaten fresh vegetables for a long time.

“It’s been a tough journey for everyone. This meal is Dr. Mu’s thank you to everyone and our apology for the poor hospitality in the past two days. Please enjoy it as much as you can, as long as you have enough rice!”

The man who claimed to be the captain of the guard came out to greet everyone. Although there was no smile on his face, his tone was very gentle. He did not leave after speaking. Instead, he took the guard who had just maintained order and sat on the table in the middle. The table had the same dishes as the other tables.

Treating people to a big meal in the last days, a big meal with meat and vegetables, was simply not something that could be described as luxury.

After the disaster, humans had been trying to restore agriculture, but it was inexplicably not going well. Whether it was food or vegetables, the output was pitifully low. The livestock industry was even worse. Livestock continued to die. By the time they could be put to the market, only small animals like cats would be left.

Therefore, most people had not eaten meat for a long time, let alone vegetables that were more expensive than meat. At this time, looking at the pots of hard vegetables on the table and smelling the overbearing aroma of the vegetables, they couldn’t help but swallow their saliva like crazy.

Some people were wary and dared not act easily, but some people couldn’t help but start eating like crazy.

They knew in their hearts that this research base was full of weird things, but the delicious food was right in front of them. Even if it was poisoned, they had to be full before they died.

Especially after the captains of the rescue teams from each base moved their chopsticks, more people couldn’t help it, and for a while, the restaurant was extremely lively.

Everyone ate until all the basins and bowls were empty, and even the vegetable soup was wiped clean with steamed buns. The basins and bowls were so clean that they almost didn’t need to be washed, and then they slumped down on their seats with satisfaction, their stomachs full of food. All the blood went to promote digestion, and the brain became drowsy due to lack of blood.

The guards of the base once again stood up to maintain order. Surprisingly, what greeted everyone was not an unseen conspiracy, but a clean dormitory.

The guards at the research base arranged dormitories for everyone in the restaurant. Although it was an eight-person room, it had a separate bathroom with hot water, so the conditions were very good.

After running around in the wild for several days and living in a dark parking garage for two more days, the rescue team members couldn’t believe that they would receive such good treatment. But the real situation was that under the leadership of their superiors, the rescue team members washed themselves up. Then they fell asleep.

Anyway, the boss didn’t say anything, so they didn’t have to think too much.

The three of Xia Ruize were assigned to a dormitory, drank the life energy collected during the day, and slept soundly until the clock pointed to seven o’clock the next morning.

This time, there was no need for guards to direct the rescue team members sent from various bases to find the restaurant on their own initiative. Sure enough, a sumptuous breakfast was prepared in the restaurant. There were not many varieties, but everyone was guaranteed to be full.

After two consecutive meals, the attitude of most of the rescue team members towards the research base had changed, from being wary to admiring it. With meat, vegetables and no poison, what more did they need?

In particular, someone learned from the guards that the research base had unique production techniques. After the disaster, they quickly resumed production. The output was enough to be self-sufficient, and they had been eating well.

Rescue team members:? ? ? So what kind of rescue did they want?

The doubts in their hearts did not stop everyone from eating and drinking. After breakfast, they were brought to the auditorium in the base. Only when they actually saw the researchers in white coats did everyone’s doubts get answered.

“…The fact is that the above situation is true, so we need to send a team across the continent to the Halls Research Base in Li Country, tens of thousands of kilometers away, to collect the original data of the virus that was leaked two years ago.

The success of this action will give a huge boost to our vaccine research work. Humans will no longer be afraid of being infected by living corpses, and even a complete solution to the virus will be just around the corner! “

The researcher on the podium spoke in an impassioned tone, while the rescuers in the seats below looked confused. Each word could be understood separately, but together they could not understand what the people on the podium were saying.

The content disclosed by the researcher was consistent with the information Gao Hexuan pulled from the intranet. The research base confessed that they suspected that the disaster two years ago was the result of a biochemical weapon virus leak, and stated that their research on the virus had reached the final stage.

As long as they could get the data of the original virus, saving humanity was right around the corner!

At this point, the purpose of the research base in summoning elites from various bases here under the banner of “asking for help” was very clear, they wanted to send them to the Li Country’s Hall Base to retrieve the data of the original virus.

After listening, all the rescuers had only one word left in their minds: Crazy!

¡Li Country! That was in another hemisphere. Before the apocalypse, it would have taken half a day to fly there. After the apocalypse, there would be no planes or ships for them to ride on. If they were to rely solely on trucks and travel by land, they would probably have to go to the end of the world!

Of course, the greater possibility was that everyone would be dead before they even got there.

Therefore, during the speech of the researchers on the stage, there was a complete silence below. Everyone looked at the people on the stage with incomprehensible and mocking eyes. No matter what kind of righteousness the action was under, they had nothing to do with them.

The researcher on the stage pushed up the glasses on the bridge of his nose. Unsurprisingly, there was no response from below. He still talked about the general plan and arrangements, and finally made a promise:

“Our base will be responsible for the logistics of all those who participate in this ‘search’ operation. Those who are willing to participate can take the initiative to sign up at the guard.”

After saying that, the researchers left the auditorium. After a moment of silence, the auditorium burst into loud laughter.

“Damn it, do they really think we are a saint and will save humanity and the world? they must have read too many comics, hahaha…”

“You’re laughing so hard. Isn’t it good to be alive? Willing to participate in this ghost mission, ten lives are not enough to waste!”

“I think these people have been locked up here for a long time and their brains are damaged. No matter how much benefit they give me, I will not die!”

The rescue team members, who felt that they had heard a huge joke, laughed and cursed. They did not care about the ugly faces of the guards in the auditorium. After all, the plan proposed by the research base was too unbelievable to them, it was simply a fantasy.

“The captain’s expression is very interesting. He seems to be considering it seriously.”

With a smile in his voice, Xia Ruize motioned to Cheng Huaiqian to look at the expressions of the team captains sitting in front. Unlike the team members who were laughing and scolding, the expressions of the captains of the rescue teams at each base were very serious, and they seemed not to be surprised to hear the news from the researcher.

“Do you think the situation would be more interesting if they knew that the military power in this research base is already very weak?”

Cheng Huaiqian glanced at the people in the auditorium, his tone full of interest in watching the excitement and not taking it too seriously.

While the two were communicating, Gao Hexuan, the little lightbulb, kept reciting the researchers’ chat records at this time.

Apart from the people at the research base, they were probably the only ones who currently knew that the research base had actually conducted a search mission, and they actually successfully arrived at the Hall base in Li country, but the entire army was annihilated.

Because a monster more terrifying than a super alien was cultivated near the Hall base, where the biochemical virus was suspected to have been leaked, and was named “mutant” by researchers.

The terrifying thing about the mutant was that it was more intelligent. A single mutant could wipe out the entire team sent by the research base and end most of the military strength of the research base.

In desperation, the research base “borrowed” people from other survivor bases in exchange for agricultural technology, trying to restart the search mission again, and retrieve the data of the original virus no matter what.

The research base had been pretending to be mysterious these days, and most of the passages inside the base were not open to outsiders. In fact, this was to cover up the fact that the internal defense strength of the research base was insufficient.

If the rescue teams from each base knew this news, would they directly make the decision to jointly take down the research base?

Cheng Huaiqian was curious.

One response to “ILE 138”

  1. still stand by my previous point, like your doing a selfless thing cool but not everyone is like you and if they refuse to go, you just made them go on a point less journey that was so dangers that some teams lost 1/3 of their group for no reason, the bases should have just disclosed the info so people who would, would come, instead of this waste of time and needless dilly dally.

    Thx for the chp! 🙂
