The World of Demons (3): Class
Xia Ruize, lying on the bed, released his mental power and released Da Hei and Xiao Hei to investigate the surrounding situation.
The area covered by the mental power were all the new students recruited by the academy. The candles in most of the rooms were extinguished, and the people in the rooms could only rest in the dark. However, there were a few rooms where people had brought candles with them and were continuing to read in the dim candlelight.
They really loved learning!
The darkness could not affect the actions of Da Hei and Xiao Hei at all. Instead, they rushed through the underground passage under the cover of darkness. Soon, they found a map of the underground passage for Xia Ruize.
The next day, what woke people up was not the morning light but the sound of a huge bell. Someone was ringing the bell in the underground passage. The sound of the bell echoed continuously in the narrow passage, waking up a group of people.
Ye Se jumped out of bed almost at the moment the bell rang, washed up quickly, put on the yellow robe issued by the academy, held the clay jar in his arms, sat on a chair, reading a book while waiting for the gray-robed teacher to pick them up.
Xia Ruize and the other two knew the time systematically and knew that it was still a full half hour until seven o’clock, so they packed up at a leisurely pace.
Ye Se looked a little nervous, and his nervousness even overwhelmed his shyness. He took the initiative to chat with his roommates, who he was not very familiar with:
“Aren’t you worried?”
Xia Ruize cast a puzzled look at Ye Se, and Ye Se continued to explain: “Today’s test, if you don’t pass the test, you won’t be able to eat.”
Xia Ruize glanced at the clay jar in Ye Se’s arms with complicated eyes. He really wanted to say that he didn’t really want to eat such “rice”. Considering Ye Se’s feelings, he finally swallowed it back silently.
However, Ye Se thought that Xia Ruize was also nervous, but in a different way from him. Realizing that he was not the only one who was nervous, Ye Se suddenly felt a lot more relaxed.
Ten minutes later, the man in a gray robe pushed open the dormitory door on time. Without saying a word, he waved his hand and signaled everyone to follow him.
The man in gray robes pushed open the doors of five dormitories in succession, and led twenty new trainees who had just passed the sacred screening yesterday and were wearing shabby yellow robes out of the underground passage, and finally walked outside.
After walking outside for a long time, Xia Ruize and the other two subconsciously looked up at the sky and saw that the sky of this mission world was dark. It was dim even in broad daylight, which made people feel depressed for no reason.
In contrast to the previous world which was bright all day long, this mission world was gloomy all day long, and the daytime was not much brighter than the evening.
Xia Ruize noticed that there were other gray-robed men leading young people in yellow robes. They all went in the same direction, crossed an empty dirt playground, and walked into a magnificent red brick building.
The first floor of the building was a large tiered classroom. Two books had already been placed on the desk. Within just a few minutes, the classroom was filled with new students in yellow robes. Xia Ruize scanned with his mental power and knew that there were more than 160 people who passed the test yesterday.
The students led by the same gray-robed man sat in two rows, and the gray-robed teacher stood at the front of the students with a serious expression.
The gray-robed men were too aloof and difficult to approach. When they stared at the students with serious expressions, no one dared to make a noise and everyone sat very obediently.
At seven o’clock, a man in a blue robe walked into the classroom. Led by the man in the gray robe, all the students saluted the man in the blue robe, placing their right hands on their chests and bowing deeply to show their respect.
It seemed that this was a common etiquette in the indigenous world. There was no need to re-teach or remind them. The trainees all knew when to do it. Xia Ruize marked a few people who were a beat behind.
The man in the blue robe nodded casually to the teachers and students, and pointed to a stack of yellow papers he had brought with him.
Then Xia Ruize watched the gray-robed man take the yellow paper and distribute it to the students he was teaching, along with feather pens.
After getting the yellow paper, Xia Ruize immediately realized, wasn’t this just a test paper?
Taking an exam right after waking up in the morning? Taking an exam before we were taught anything? How could a human being do this?
Xia Ruize looked at the test questions on the test paper that were related to the seven basic books placed in the dormitory last night, and deeply understood why someone always reminded them that their study tasks were heavy, because the study tasks in this mission world were really heavy!
There was no point in complaining, as the gray-robed man had loudly reminded the students that they must finish the test within half an hour and had started the timer.
Student Xia Ruize held the thin feather pen awkwardly and answered the questions reluctantly.
Although the feather pen was not easy to use and the test paper was not convenient for writing, the test questions were not difficult for him. They were all questions that he could do after memorizing them from basic books, so Xia Ruize answered the questions quite quickly.
What was really despairing was that after the half-hour test time was over, the man in gray robes graded the papers of his students on the spot and quickly calculated the scores of each student.
Anyone who scored less than 60 points out of 100 was ordered to stand against the wall at the back of the classroom and was told that they would not have any meals for the day.
Xia Ruize watched helplessly as more than half of the students in the classroom were driven to the back of the classroom, including their roommate, the poor blond Xiao Ye Se.
None of the punished students dared to raise any objections, and they all obediently walked to the back of the classroom and stood there as punishment.
The students who passed the exam and were sitting in their seats had no happy expressions on their faces. Looking at the people standing at the back of the classroom, they seemed to have foreseen their own tragic future.
The classroom accommodated nearly two hundred people, but because no one dared to make too much noise, it managed to create the quiet effect of only a dozen people.
After the students who were supposed to sit down or stand up were seated, the man in blue robe who had been sitting on the podium with his eyes closed and resting saw that the morning assessment was over, so he cleared his throat and began to lecture.
From the fluency of his lectures, we could tell that Mr. Blue robe had a very solid grasp of theoretical knowledge. He first spent an hour reviewing the important contents of the seven books provided to students the day before, and then continued to teach in a more in-depth direction.
This lecture lasted for four hours without stopping. The teacher in the blue robe had no interaction with the students. He just produced a lot of theoretical knowledge without paying any attention to the fact that the students below were already dizzy and looked pale.
In addition, the gray-robed teacher maintained discipline throughout the entire teaching process. Specifically, if any student made a big movement or had an inappropriate expression on his face, he would be given a death stare by the teacher.
As the number of such incidents increased, even Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian had to sit up straight and pretend to be listening to the lecture seriously.
“Isn’t the difficulty of this mission world just the lessons? Although the difficulty is not high, the process is indeed a bit torturous.”
After four hours of classes in a row, Xia Ruize couldn’t help but complain in his heart.
Anyway, he had never taken such a high-intensity four-hour course when he was in school. This was real cramming education. The teacher didn’t care whether the students understood it or not, and just crammed it in violently.
Finally, it was noon. All the students’ eyes were frozen. The blue-robed teacher finally let the poor students go and casually said, “Take the test before the class in the afternoon.” Then he left the classroom first.
More than a hundred students were left in shock.
The gray-robed teacher reacted immediately, asked his students to hand in the clay jars, and told them to stay in the classroom to review what they had learned in the morning and wait patiently for lunch to be delivered.
Ye Se, who had regained the right to sit down because the teacher had left, wandered over to Xia Ruize like a wandering soul and sat down. As soon as he sat down, he began to flip through the books provided on the desk. It seemed that he was ready to make studying his meal.
The books that had been placed on the course curriculum long ago were the content of the morning lecture. Perhaps because the difficulty had increased, the man in the blue robe taught in more detail, and it took the entire morning to go through the two books.
Xia Ruize looked around and saw that most of the students were taking advantage of their time to review their books. A small number of students did not want to study, but were exhausted and dizzy. They really could not concentrate on studying. They looked like they could not sit still and were swaying as if they might faint at any time.
Not long after, the gray-robed teachers pushed the students’ lunch into the classroom and distributed clay pots to the students who were qualified to eat.
Ye Se’s stomach growled loudly. He swallowed hard and tried to focus on the contents of the book, but the aroma of food continued to waft towards him, aggressively snatching away his already pitifully scarce attention.
Ye Se’s deskmate, Gao Hexuan, poured the food in his clay jar into Ye Se’s empty clay jar. Under Ye Se’s surprised eyes, he said casually: “Give it to you, share it with them.”
“No, no, no, how can this be possible…”
Ye Se refused hastily. In his opinion, food was the most precious thing. He couldn’t even be full himself, so no one would give up their food.
Ye Se’s resistance was suppressed by Gao Hexuan, and then Gao Hexuan turned around and huddled together with Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian behind him. Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian each poured some food into Gao Hexuan’s clay jar.
Ye Se was immediately moved. He looked at his three roommates with moist eyes and thought that his roommates were really nice people.
The good man in Ye Se’s eyes was actually eating delicacies brought from other worlds and the endless world under the illusion. After all, the clay jar at noon today was filled with a bunch of sticky unknown mixture, which they could not accept. Instead of wasting it, it was better to give it to those in need.
If they were not afraid to go too far, the three of them really wanted to give away all the food.
Xia Ruize looked around and saw that most of the natives in the mission world were eating happily and contentedly. The students who were punished by not having lunch held down their growling stomachs and tried hard to focus their eyes on their books instead of on other people’s clay jars.
In such a large environment, it would be difficult for the few trialers who had no illusion to protect themselves from showing disgust. Of course, the more difficult challenge was to eat a bunch of unknown food in the clay jar in front of everyone.
Xia Ruize took the opportunity to target several suspected targets who might be trialers. The one who overlapped with the student who was a beat slow in the morning salute was most likely a trialer.
The lunch break was only one hour long, so the trainees worked very quickly because they not only had to eat, but also had to wash the clay jars and study hard. They were extremely busy.
