The End of the World Base Master (1):
Gu Juntian and Zhou Qinghao, after becoming partners, first lived in the Hippo Tribe for a few years, then left the tribe and went elsewhere.
They brought some people and many supplies. Wherever they went, they guided the orcs living there, teaching them how to live better.
During that time, they experienced all kinds of things.
When they met evil people, they killed them; when they met those in distress, they offered help.
The living conditions in primitive society were not good, but the scenery was truly beautiful. Together, they saw all the untouched landscapes.
A long, long time later, when orc civilization developed, when their lives became better, and when they began shaping statues of the Beast God, they carved the Beast God as a young man riding a tiger.
The apocalypse, H City base, central district, a certain villa.
“Juntian, if your father turns into a zombie, what are we going to do…” A middle-aged woman covered her face, crying nonstop.
Beside her, a young man in his early twenties tried to comfort her. “Auntie Lu, Uncle Gu will definitely be fine, don’t cry.”
Gu Juntian blinked at them, and the memories of the body’s original owner suddenly appeared in his mind.
He realized he had transmigrated here. Although he didn’t remember his own past life, he knew the original owner’s past and future.
The body’s original owner was also called Gu Juntian.
Before the apocalypse, H City was a bustling coastal city.
The original owner was a low-key third-generation rich kid in this city.
His grandfather, together with his father, started a glass manufacturing company.
Both father and grandfather were farsighted and valued technology. Although the company first only produced ordinary glass, later it developed high-tech glass products.
The Gu family company went public early and, because they mastered advanced technology in the field, their business thrived.
Gradually, the Gu family became one of the top ten wealthiest families in the city.
Grandfather and father were both extremely hardworking, disciplined, and efficient.
The original owner, however, was the opposite—lazy and procrastinating.
His parents sent him to the best schools, but he didn’t care about studying and only maintained average grades.
His father and grandfather wanted to force him to study harder, but they couldn’t bear to make him suffer, so they let it go.
After all, they worked so hard just to let their child live comfortably.
Other than laziness, the original owner had no other bad habits.
By the time he graduated high school, the worst he had done was secretly buy a phone to play games late at night, skip homework, or ditch extracurricular classes to play basketball with friends.
When Gu Father saw other kids racing cars, doing extreme sports, and changing girlfriends constantly, he felt his own son wasn’t so bad after all.
Thinking his son was a bit simple and might get led astray if sent abroad, Gu Father decided to let him stay in the country and attend college locally.
His grades were average, but good enough to enter a local university, so he stayed in the city for school.
Then, in his sophomore year, the apocalypse came.
Because he studied in the same city, he often went home. That day, he brought back a pile of dirty clothes for the maid to wash, when suddenly the apocalypse descended.
For reasons unknown, one-third of the world’s population turned into zombies at the same time.
If it had been like in the movies—some lab accident releasing a zombie virus—it might have been controllable. But when people suddenly turned into zombies and started biting others without warning, chaos erupted.
The original owner was lucky.
His parents and their maid didn’t turn into zombies. Not only that, his ambitious father awakened a supernatural power.
Gu Father was well-connected and respected in the city. Realizing the world had drastically changed, he quickly contacted the city’s remaining leaders.
Some leaders died, some survived. The survivors worked together to build a safe base.
At first, the H City base was managed by a group of people.
But most of them were old and hadn’t awakened powers, unable to control the powered survivors.
Gu Father, however, was different. His power was very strong, ranking among the top in the base.
With both strength and leadership, Gu Father became the base leader in the second year of the apocalypse.
Before, the original owner lived off his father; after the apocalypse, he still lived off his father.
Gu Father managed the base well, but in the fourth year of the apocalypse, the base was besieged by zombies. While fighting, he was ambushed by an advanced zombie. He was severely injured, and his power core was shattered.
Normally, powered survivors had some immunity to the zombie virus, unless attacked by a stronger zombie.
The one that ambushed Gu Father was indeed stronger. He should have turned into a zombie, but because his power core shattered, the chaotic energy inside blocked the virus, and he barely survived.
But he was left crippled.
It was at this moment that Gu Juntian transmigrated.
He hadn’t enjoyed the good days of the original owner, but now had to endure the hardships.
After Gu Father’s injury, life for the family worsened, eventually leading to the original owner’s death.
In fact, his death was partly his own fault.
If Gu Juntian hadn’t come, just days after Gu Father’s injury, powered survivors would have robbed their home of food.
Gu Father tried to resist but was killed on the spot.
The original owner and his mother, devastated, buried him, but with their supplies gone, they had to work to survive.
Because of Gu Father’s former position, they found relatively easy jobs—not starving, but far from their old life.
This could have continued peacefully, but then there was Zhen Jiayun, the son of Gu Mother’s best friend and the original owner’s boyfriend. He told the original owner that Gu Father’s injury was caused by Zhou Qinghao, the new leader of the base.
After Gu Father’s fall, Zhou Qinghao became leader.
He had been a military officer sent at the start of the apocalypse to maintain order, and he possessed powerful ice abilities. Before, Gu Father managed internal affairs while Zhou Qinghao handled external missions. After Gu Father’s injury, Zhou Qinghao suppressed chaos and took control.
Zhen Jiayun even produced evidence, claiming Zhou Qinghao engineered the ambush to seize power.
The original owner trusted him and believed it.
Fueled by revenge, he got close to Zhou Qinghao, and accidentally discovered Zhou Qinghao liked him.
The original owner also liked men, but his heart had long belonged to Zhen Jiayun.
Before the apocalypse, he never dared admit it, but after seeing Zhen Jiayun alone and starving after losing his parents, he confessed to his own parents.
If it had been before, Gu Father and Gu Mother would have struggled to accept it, but in the apocalypse, they accepted his feelings.
After the confession, and after Zhen Jiayun accepted him, they even let Zhen Jiayun move in, treating him as a son.
For four years, he lived with them.
Yet, despite sharing a room, the two never went further.
Zhen Jiayun claimed he was straight and needed time to adjust, refusing intimacy.
The original owner respected him and didn’t push, sometimes sleeping on the sofa or in the study.
When he learned Zhou Qinghao liked him, the original owner told Zhen Jiayun, who then advised him to pursue Zhou Qinghao to seek revenge.
So, the original owner broke up with Zhen Jiayun and openly pursued Zhou Qinghao.
Though he failed to win him, Zhou Qinghao became increasingly kind toward him.
Then came another zombie horde.
Zhen Jiayun gave him some powder, telling him to put it on Zhou Qinghao. He did.
During the defense, all the zombies swarmed Zhou Qinghao alone. On top of that, some powered survivors refused to help.
Zhou Qinghao died in that battle.
While the original owner felt satisfied at avenging his father, Zhen Jiayun accused him of orchestrating Zhou Qinghao’s death.
Zhou Qinghao had many loyal followers. In their rage, they tied up the original owner and threw him into a zombie horde.
“Wuuu…” Gu Mother was still crying.
At this moment, Gu Father had just been injured.
He had been bitten, possibly infected, so he was quarantined before returning home.
In the original storyline, it was Zhou Qinghao who brought him back.
Gu Juntian thought the original owner was foolish. How could he believe Zhou Qinghao harmed his father?
Zhou Qinghao was stronger than Gu Father. If he truly wanted him dead, Gu Father would not have made it back alive.
The ones who harmed Gu Father and later used the original owner against Zhou Qinghao were likely the same group.
Both Gu Father and Zhou Qinghao had imposed strict rules on powered survivors.
In other bases, powered survivors had become above the law, even killing ordinary people without punishment. But in H City base, powered survivors who broke the law were punished the same as ordinary people.
Naturally, this angered those who felt superior after awakening powers.
The original owner stayed indoors and was ignorant of the political struggles, but after seeing his memories, Gu Juntian understood the base was split into two factions.
After Zhou Qinghao’s death, power would fall into the hands of those who disregarded ordinary people.
The future of the base’s civilians would be grim.
As for Zhen Jiayun…he had no powers and was probably just being used.
But he was still ungrateful and treacherous, maybe even knowing inside details.
The original owner had treated him with nothing but kindness, yet Zhen Jiayun manipulated him into harming Zhou Qinghao, then betrayed him without hesitation.
Gu Juntian looked at the young man sitting beside Gu Mother, already thinking about how to drive him away.
Just then, there was noise outside.
Zhou Qinghao returned, carrying the unconscious Gu Father.
Gu Father’s arm had been bitten, a chunk of flesh missing, with additional scratches all over. His condition looked dire.
Seeing this, Gu Mother cried even louder.
Gu Juntian, knowing his father would survive, was less emotional.
His attention was fixed on Zhou Qinghao.
In fact, after Gu Father’s eventual death, Zhou Qinghao had often looked after the mother and son. For example, this very house should have been reclaimed by the base, but thanks to him, they were allowed to stay.
The original owner, harming Zhou Qinghao without reason, was truly unforgivable.
Gu Juntian already had a plan: he would warn Zhou Qinghao about hidden enemies, then strike a deal using his knowledge of future events.
But when he saw Zhou Qinghao in person, he forgot all of that.
Why hadn’t he realized before how handsome Zhou Qinghao was?
Such a man liked the original owner, yet the original owner still pined for Zhen Jiayun? What kind of taste was that?
