Parasite (13): Launching the Offense

The howling wind, carrying rain, beat against the windows. All the doors and windows in the house were tightly shut. The fresh air system worked diligently, continuously bringing in fresh air from outside while simultaneously expelling stale air, providing the house with plenty of fresh and dry air. The windows were locked from the inside, leaving no gaps anywhere.

When Wen Yi first discovered the fossils, he immediately modified the ground. The main entrance and every window outside were sealed tightly, with not a single mosquito or insect able to enter the house through any gaps.

But the house was not without flaws; the ventilation ducts of the fresh air system were the biggest loophole. Wen Yi could go without breathing, but Tan Xiao, a human, could not lose oxygen.

This was his home, and he couldn’t rely on an oxygen tank to get by. Even with an oxygen generator, the air people needed wasn’t just oxygen. For Tan Xiao, air ducts had to be left as necessary gaps.

The rain was getting lighter, and going out with an umbrella to shop didn’t have much of an impact. The weather forecast said the next day would be a sunny day. If nothing unexpected happened, Tan Xiao planned to go out and have fun with Wen Yi. After taking so many days off, they couldn’t just stay in bed during their honeymoon, right?

Now it was already the sixth day after the wedding, and a third of the leave they had taken had passed. They had been goofing off at home for too long. That day, when Tan Xiao turned on the light and looked at the mirror in the bathroom, he felt like there was a hint of debauchery emanating from inside out.

Wen Yi had matured inside and out; the slightly green young man from when they first met now looked like a plump, juicy peach, with even bigger pecs. Considering Wen Yi’s ability to mimic, Tan Xiao believed there must have been some intentional effort on his part, and it definitely wasn’t him who had made them bigger! Definitely not…

Tan Xiao chased away the chaotic images from his mind: “There’s quite a lot to do today, we need to get ready early.”

Frozen meat, frozen chicken, frozen duck, etc., could be stored in the refrigerator for a long time, but if they exceeded seven days, the taste was inevitably affected. Leafy greens and similar items had an even shorter shelf life, so they should be eaten as soon as possible.

Tan Xiao counted the stock in the fridge and took everything out to defrost early in the morning. This time, he planned to deal with it all at once. Anyway, Wen Yi really could eat a lot, so there was no need to worry about wasting food.

When doing his own work, Tan Xiao didn’t plan to let Wen Yi have a free meal: “Baby, go pick the green beans and wash them while you’re at it.”

Wen Yi was a young master and wouldn’t take the initiative to find work. However, when Tan Xiao spoke up, the other party would honestly do the job, and he did it quite well at a slow pace. Tan Xiao was very satisfied with him.

Wen Yi took a small stool and sat down at the kitchen door, with a trash can and a clean big bowl beside him. The bowls and chopsticks had been chosen by him and Tan Xiao together.

After getting married, the furniture at home hadn’t changed much. New furniture didn’t necessarily mean it was good; it might still contain formaldehyde, so they hadn’t changed the furniture. However, they had replaced all the bowls, chopsticks, and cups used for meals with new ones. The bowls and chopsticks they used at home now were couple-themed, with patterns of little deer in the forest, symbolizing “one deer with you, one deer together.”

Silver mist mixed with the rain crawled up, trying to enter through the cracks of doors and windows. Of course, they couldn’t find any gaps to slip through, and their attempts failed.

The already powerful Yan had its own intelligence. It reached the breakthrough point, transformed into mist, and planned to slip in through the vent, but Wen Yi sensed Yan’s presence immediately.

He wasn’t an idiot; he had already stationed part of himself near the ventilation duct. The gray soldier figurine waited above the duct, and as soon as the mist approached, it immediately drove away and intimidated its own kind.

“Get lost!”

Wen Yi didn’t speak, but he issued such a command with his aura, causing the gray mist, which was noticeably weaker in energy, to retreat.

Wen Yi sensed the invasion of other beings, and in a fit of emotion, accidentally knocked over a ceramic bowl beside him. The crisp sound startled Tan Xiao, who was chopping meat. He turned his head to look at him and asked, “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing much, just the sound of little bugs, but they’ve been chased away.” Wen Yi calmly picked up the cleaned green beans and put them back in the bowl.

He Said to Tan Xiao “Are you really going to make so many dishes? That’s too much raw meat; it will take a long time to cook. You don’t have to work so hard. Just leave two portions for yourself, and I’ll eat the rest.”

The reason for making twice the amount that Tan Xiao ate was because he still wanted to have a meal with his husband. The meaning of life lay in eating, drinking, and having fun. Although the little energy in the prepared food was negligible for Wen Yi, he enjoyed the happiness of eating together with his partner.

Now he wanted to eat raw meat, mainly to replenish energy. With enemies invading, any little bit helped.

Tan Xiao saw no signs on his face, rinsed the meat soaking in clean water to remove the foam, then turned around and brought a large basin of meat to Wen Yi.

“Take your time eating, and once you’re done, you can come and get it from me.”

Wen Yi took off the clothes on his upper body, his torso transforming into a silvery liquid. Then, a large hole automatically opened in his stomach, and a big basin of meat was poured in. The hole closed up again, quickly digesting the food.

He continued to pick the remaining green beans, eating and working at the same time.

The weak one retreated a step and left, but it didn’t get the food it wanted, and it was very unwilling. The gray mist flowed downward, sneaking in through the open window, and found another imposing middle-aged man to report to.

If Wen Yi had been there, he would have realized that this middle-aged man was none other than the leader he had previously tried to manipulate into suppressing his own kind.

During his marriage, the entity parasitizing the mayor of City A had used the power of its host to consume a lot of energy, enabling it to control more hosts.

The mayor of City A’s circle of contacts was already saturated; it craved more and stronger power. The previous leader, who had been wary of parasites, had now made it onto its parasitic list. Such a high-status individual could not be entrusted to subordinates who only knew how to consume. This time, it planned to handle it personally.

Although there had long been precautions, one was in the open and the other was hidden. As a military leader, he couldn’t possibly wear an airtight mask all the time, nor could he rely on a shield every moment of his life.

The first to be infiltrated was this leader’s family member. His daughter had been parasitized by a colleague at work, and when she returned home after her shift and saw her father, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time, she warmly embraced him and even offered him a cup of warm milk to help him sleep.

She had put sleeping pills in the milk she gave him, ensuring that the man who drank it would temporarily lose consciousness.

This was the terrifying aspect of parasites. After parasitizing intelligent humans, they gained intelligence comparable to humans. They knew it was difficult, but they could attack through loved ones. Even if one’s willpower was strong, it was always harder to defend against them when it came to family.

Of course, parasites could forcibly parasitize, but when facing certain humans with strong consciousness, the weaker parasitic species could be temporarily suppressed or end up in a mutually destructive situation, turning the parasitic species into fools.

This was not a good thing for the parasite group. Cultivating a powerful host required a lot of energy, but if the host became a fool, it would be trapped inside the host’s body until the body died.

Yan wouldn’t die, but if it wanted to regain its strength, it would need to double the energy to recover. Repairing was often much more difficult than rebuilding.

After parasitizing this leader, Yan easily learned everything they had done to fight against it. The clever parasitic species did not immediately order the release of its kind but continued to disguise itself, following the clues to find the real culprit.

“We have a traitor among us!” “Traitors should be captured!” “Eliminate what he cares about the most!”

This leader of the Yan could not understand Wen Yi’s betrayal; this fellow of its own kind had actually tried to stop Yan’s expansion for the sake of humans. To Yan, this was an unforgivable act.

The entity parasitizing this general did not use human methods to deal with its own kind. After all, in its view, it was its kind that had parasitized the human named Wen Yi.

If Wen Yi was dead, injured, and crippled. His kind could easily find a new host. The human fortress was not so easily able to imprison a powerful Yan.

After observing for some time, Yan discovered that Wen Yi valued his legal partner the most, the man named Tan Xiao.

Perhaps because he had communicated deeply with Yan so many times, the other party had a strong Yan aura on them, but after becoming stronger, it could tell that they were a genuine human.

Because the parasites were all Yans, to distinguish them, they were classified by their hosts. The order given by the general Yan was: “Capture that human, infiltrate his home, and parasitize in front of the traitor!”

According to human memory, for them, home was the safest place. The shadows cast within the home were definitely greater than those cast outside.

Moreover, Tan Xiao and Wen Yi had just gotten married, and this specially protected area was their love nest.

However, it wasn’t long before the same clan transmitted the news of the failure, prompting General Yan to reassess the traitor’s strength.

That was right, the weak and small Yans had no sense of self-preservation at all, completely governed by instinct, while the other party was a Yan with intelligence.

However, a tribe often only needed one king, just like a bee colony only had one queen, and an ant nest could only have one queen. In this united race, only one wise leader was needed.

The general decided to eliminate the traitor. It knew that its race was immortal and indestructible, and it was determined to deal a huge blow to the traitor Wen Yi, then force him into a deep slumber.

“If there are no gaps, then tear down his doors, windows, and walls! You all start gnawing at the same time, and make a way in through the wall!”

According to similar replies, Wen Yi was obviously well-prepared and should have stationed some guards at the ventilation ducts and door cracks.

It summoned many of its kind, simultaneously attacking multiple walls on that floor of the house from various points! It didn’t believe that Wen Yi could block one or two places, but not all directions!
