The World of Demons (9): Battlefield

Gardner led the eight people and walked for more than ten minutes in the direction of the sky where the color kept changing. They seemed to be able to vaguely hear the noisy sounds of fighting. The atmosphere gradually became tense, making the newcomers clearly realize that the so-called main battlefield was just ahead.

At the end of the cobblestone road was a tall city wall. The tall and heavy city gate under the wall was tightly closed, with only two small doors less than two meters high opened in the corner. Men in blue robes and gray robes were guarding the door, registering the information of every magician entering and leaving the city gate.

Facing the magician guarding the city gate, Gardner showed a flattering smile on his face, took out his ID card and certificate of training newcomers, pointed at the eight people behind him, and introduced them:

“These eight are the new kids I just got. I won’t get their ID cards until tomorrow. I’ll take them out to see the world first.”

The gray-robed man guarding the gate turned to the blue-robed man behind him and asked for permission. The blue-robed man nodded nonchalantly and let them pass. Gardner thanked him hastily and only after getting permission did he lead the eight newcomers through the small door under the city gate.

The eight people originally thought that what they would see after passing through the city gate was a battlefield, but they found that after passing through the city gate, they saw a larger and more prosperous city. A large number of citizens came and went, which was a scene rarely seen in Bei’an City.

Gardner introduced with pride in his voice:

“This is the outer city of Sack City. The outer city is where ordinary people live. It is crowded and chaotic. You should stay in the outer city if you have nothing to do. The inner city of Sack City is where magicians should stay.”

As he spoke, Gardner swaggered down the middle of the road.

The gray robes they wore were the best proof of their identity. They could walk in the middle of the road, in the cleanest place. When ordinary people wearing linen clothes on both sides saw the magicians in robes, they would carefully move out of their way and even bend and bow to show their respect.

Gardner walked along the main road of the outer city towards the outer city gate in the distance, as usual, amid the respectful welcome of many ordinary people.

The gate of the outer city was taller, stronger and wider than that of the inner city. The long city wall stretched as far as the eye could see, spanning between two towering mountains.

“The main battlefield is ahead. The main battlefield relies on the wall you see. The wall reinforced by magic circles is extremely strong and blocks the monsters that invade from the western continent.

The city wall is four kilometers long and is divided into eight areas. Each area is five hundred meters long and is guarded by a magician. We belong to the seventh area, so you must remember this.

It’s still a long way from here to District 7, we can take a car there.”

As he spoke, Gardner turned into a large, spacious square, where various wooden carts were parked, each pulled by a huge, ugly creature that was completely black.

Noticing that the newcomers were staring at the creature pulling the cart, Gardner smiled proudly and introduced it:

“You haven’t seen this before, right? This thing is called ‘Black Skin’, and it is a kind of monster with a relatively mild temperament. After being tamed by the magician, it can be driven to pull a cart.

Come and try it out. The black leather car can seat more than ten people. The magician will take care of everyone’s troubles and allow everyone to ride the black leather car twice a day for free.”

The black carriage chosen by Gardner was already occupied by quite a few people. With the nine of them, the entire carriage was just full. The ordinary person in charge of pulling the carriage hurriedly pulled the reins on the black monster in front and gave orders. The black monster then started to pull the carriage.

It wasno wonder that this monster called Black Skin pulled the cart very steadily and at a fairly fast speed. It reached the seventh district, which was three kilometers away, in less than twenty minutes.

After jumping off the black leather car, Gardner reminded them, “Every time you go to the battlefield, you must first report to the dispatch office. The dispatch office will arrange for you to go to a specific defensive position. Of course, if you stay on the battlefield, you will also have your meals at the dispatch office.”

As he spoke, Gardner led the eight people to the dispatch office.

The dispatch office was easy to identify because there was a large open area between the citizens’ houses and the city walls, and the dispatch office was the only building in the open area.

As soon as he entered the dispatch office, they saw staff in gray robes busying around. Gardner found a dispatcher he knew, so he quickly stepped forward, greeted him with a smile, and then reported his situation.

The dispatcher looked at the young men following Gardner, then looked at the city defense map in his hand, and made arrangements:

“Take them to room 77 on the third floor and teach them well. Don’t let them mess things up.”

“You’re still not confident in my work? you don’t know how reliable I am!”

Saying goodbye to the dispatcher with a smile, Gardner led the eight newcomers through the dispatch office and into the city wall.

The light inside the closed wall suddenly dimmed. The candles fixed on the wall emitted a weak light, barely illuminating the wide staircase. Gardner reminded the newcomers to be careful of the steps under their feet and casually introduced:

“There are three layers in the city wall, and each layer is divided into one hundred five-meter-long sections. After a while, you will know how to find your assigned position. Today, follow me to take a look.

Today we are assigned to the third level, which is the top of the city wall. Hehe, you are lucky to be able to reach the top of the city wall on your first visit. It seems that today’s battle situation is not too tense. “

After turning a flight of stairs, the eight people saw what the so-called first level meant. Ten meters above the ground inside the city wall was a flat space with many holes in the closed city wall.

A large number of ordinary human warriors and a small number of robed magicians were attacking from the hole. There were all kinds of shouts and orders, and it looked very chaotic.

Gardner did not stop and continued to lead the newcomers up the stairs. When they climbed about 20 meters, they saw the second floor in a similar situation.

After climbing up the last flight of stairs, the group finally reached the top of the city wall, and the view in front of them suddenly became clear.

The newcomers could clearly see that the entire wall was twenty meters wide, with battlements on the outer side. Ordinary human warriors and robed magicians were attacking from the battlements from above.

Gardner climbed to the top of the wall without stopping. Instead, he continued walking to the left of the stairs for more than a hundred meters. He pointed to two adjacent battlements and said, “This is the 77th room.”

There were originally four ordinary warriors in the so-called 77th room who were shooting arrows downwards. When they saw the robed magician coming, they quickly bent down and bowed, then stepped to the sides, respectfully waiting for the magician’s arrangements.

At the same time, as Gardner’s words fell, Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian had already led the way to the battlements, looking out from their high place, they saw a downward sloping valley outside the city wall, and a dark and endless stream of monsters were climbing up the city wall, while various magic attacks, arrows, stones, etc. thrown from various parts of the city wall were preventing the monsters from approaching.

Only when they really stood at this position did they understand why the sky kept changing colors when viewed from a distance. Although magic apprentices could only launch small attacks, the attacks launched by magicians and mages were much louder. When thousands of magicians launched magical attacks at the same time, the entire sky would change color.

The other four trialers followed Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian and lay down in the gap between the battlements to look out. Gardner, who was left behind, was speechless for a moment. He had never seen such proactive newcomers before.

All the new recruits he had led before followed him to the battlefield with frightened faces and fearful attitudes.

Gardner was used to taking new recruits to the battlefield for a walk, scaring these little guys so that they would obey. Who knew that this time, after taking over a few aliens, their attitudes would be so positive?

“Gardner, can we attack?”

Cheng Huaiqian looked at the monsters all over the mountains as if he saw small monsters waiting to be killed, and he could hardly hold back his sword.

Cheng Huaiqian’s question made Gardner even more depressed, but he could only bite his cheek and reply:

“Hey, listen to me. There are some rules for choosing your target. You’d better only attack the monster in front of you. Be especially careful not to steal the monster that others are attacking.”

This made several people look at Gardner, who immediately became proud and complained:

“I’m just saying that you newbies who know nothing are too impetuous. Let me tell you, the monsters you kill will be recorded on your ID cards. This is related to whether you can get potions, so if you snatch a monster that someone else is about to kill, you will be hated.”

After saying that, Gardner pushed aside the two newcomers and stood in the middle. He took out his ID card and emphasized, “Watch carefully.”

Then Gardner began to chant a spell. After more than a minute, a fireball as big as a basketball appeared in front of him. Gardner waved his hand triumphantly, and the fireball flew towards the bottom of the city wall. In just ten seconds, it burned all the black shadows in a straight line.

“See? That thing is the Moshas you learned about in books. It is the lowest level of monsters and also the most abundant.”

Gardner’s tone was full of pride. Everyone came to see him easily kill a group of Moshas.

Gardner was confident that his ability was still quite impressive among magic apprentices, otherwise he would not dare to take the initiative to ask to guide the newcomers. Those scumbags who could only make a small fireball after a lot of effort did not dare to guide the newcomers at all, for fear of being suppressed by the newcomers.

Unfortunately, this smugness was soon broken by Cheng Huaiqian, who pointed to a few ordinary soldiers nearby who were shooting arrows at the Moshas and asked in confusion:

“I see that the ordinary soldiers seem to be responsible for killing the Moshas. Shouldn’t we kill the demon soldiers?”

The air suddenly became quiet. Gardner felt the puzzled gazes of the newcomers and blushed. He glared at Cheng Huaiqian fiercely before explaining:

“I advise you as newcomers not to be too ambitious. It’s good enough that you can kill the Moshas now. You should improve your abilities and consider the demon soldiers when you are strong enough.”

“Is the one wearing armor a demon soldier?”

Xia Ruize pointed at a monster below that was obviously different from the vaguely shaped Moshas around it. The half-human-tall humanoid monster was wearing a layer of black armor and looked much more “refined” than the surrounding Moshas.

Gardner rolled his eyes and said impatiently, “Yes, didn’t you learn that from the books?”

The next second, his impatient expression froze on his face. Cheng Huaiqian took half a minute to quickly chant the magic spell. Two metal arrows appeared out of thin air in front of him and shot straight at the demon soldier below. The demon soldier was hit in the head by two arrows and fell to the ground.

The fallen demon soldier was not dead yet, and Xia Ruize immediately added a fireball, which burned most of the demon soldier’s body. After two rounds of continuous attacks, the demon soldier completely stopped moving.
