Battle on the Insect Planet (2): Pioneer

Xia Ruize felt familiar with the name of “Liu Wennian”. Unfortunately, the owner of this name did not have black hair and black eyes, but brown hair and black eyes. This made Xia Ruize, who used his mental power to see the other person, feel a little awkward.

Liu Wennian’s voice soon rang out on the internal channel. He first confirmed the locations of his nine team members, and then briefly introduced himself as a veteran who had served in the special forces for more than five years. He hoped that all team members would cooperate with his instructions in the next operation.

Xia Ruize vaguely heard the exclamations of surprise from other comrades when Liu Wennian was introducing the team, and realized that the “special forces” mentioned by Liu Wennian should have a specific meaning. Thinking about the fact that Liu Wennian was designated as the third candidate for leader, he immediately understood that although the one thousand soldiers participating in the pioneering were selected by drawing lots, the leaders of each team and the captains of each group were not randomly selected by the command headquarters, but should be appointed according to the assessment of their strength and experience.

When he was still very unfamiliar with this mission world, it would be a good choice to obey the orders of this experienced native soldier.

The only problem was, under the strict formation orders, he didn’t know if he could still meet up with his teammates?

“Attention, we are about to enter the planet Erdogan.”

Liu Wennian’s reminder sounded on the internal channel, and soon Xia Ruize felt his body tilted suddenly. Through the window of the mecha, he could see that the spaceship had changed direction and was rushing towards the planet Erdogan.

Previously, when the spacecraft was traveling in space, the noise was loud but the driving process was relatively stable. However, when the spacecraft changed direction and rushed into the Erdogan star, the spacecraft began to vibrate, and the amplitude of the vibration became larger and larger.

Even though the mechanical arms of the cabin were tightly fixing Xia Ruize’s mecha, and he was tightly wrapped in the sensor cabin of the mecha, he could still feel the vibrations of the spaceship becoming more and more violent, and his internal organs were shaking violently.

“ah!”

Someone’s screams came from the internal channel, and Xia Ruize hurriedly turned down the volume of the internal channel to protect his ears.

When the vibrations were so severe that Xia Ruize suspected the spaceship was going to fall apart, there was a loud “bang” and the spaceship finally stopped completely. The huge recoil force made Xia Ruize dizzy for a moment, and then the mechanical arm on the cabin opened and his mecha was freed.

If he hadn’t reacted in time and stood still, Xia Ruize was afraid that he would fall down and take the mecha with him. After all, there were already more than a dozen mechas lying all over the floor in the cabin.

“Team 4708, follow me, prepare to leave the cabin!”

Liu Wennian’s voice rang out, and Xia Ruize saw him raise a metal mecha arm as a guide and walk towards the spaceship’s hatch.

Xia Ruize hurriedly followed, walked out of the cabin with Liu Wennian, and saw the true face of Erdogan’s planet.

All you could see were large stretches of yellow sandy ground, as if you had landed in a desert. The spaceship was diving headfirst into the sandy ground. In the distance, you could see four other spaceships, only two of which were parked steadily on the ground, and the other three were loaded sideways into the sand.

An area was cordoned off in the middle of the landing points of the five spaceships. Mechanical vehicles that drove out of the spaceship cargo holds had already begun working on the open space, busily setting up a temporary camp.

The soldiers in the spaceship cabin gathered at the edge of the open space under the leadership of their respective leaders. Xia Ruize quickly locked the positions of his two teammates among the group of mechas.

Cheng Huaiqian drove a huge steel mecha submergedly and approached Xia Ruize quietly. While the scene was still in chaos, the two men came close to each other.

“It’s really fun!” Cheng Huaiqian excitedly shared his driving experience with his lover, “I actually got to control a mecha in my lifetime. This feeling is really a bit exciting.”

Xia Ruize laughed out loud: “Then let’s try to take a few with us when we leave, and continue to experience them after we return.”

Just as the two were discussing how to get the most out of this mission world, the chaotic team was finally put in order, and Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian were forced to separate.

After confirming that all the 1,000 soldiers were in place, a simple topographic map was sent to the mecha screens of all the soldiers, and the voice of the pioneer team captain sounded on the internal channel:

“This simple map is the basic information provided by the detector about the surrounding area. You will need to fill in the details yourself. What will be sent to you next is the exploration plan and direction of each team.

Each group can leave one person behind to guard the temporary camp, and the person will be determined by the team captain. Ten minutes later, the first day of exploration officially begins.”

While Xia Ruize was still carefully examining the brief topographic map, Liu Wennian had already turned around and taken a quick look around, then designated a soldier to stay behind.

The other members of the team had no objection to this decision. After all, the one who was left behind fell to the cabin floor as soon as he was freed from the cabin’s mechanical arm, and it took him a long time to climb up crookedly. It was obvious that he was not so familiar with the operation of the mecha, and staying in the camp was a good thing for him and the other members of the team.

After confirming the number of people who would stay behind, Liu Wennian turned around to meet up with the other four teams on the same exploration mission, and Xia Ruize happily followed.

According to the command of the headquarters, one team from each of the five spaceships merged into one team to explore the same direction. It was unknown whether it was a coincidence or a deliberate arrangement by the Lord God, but the team that Cheng Huaiqian and Gao Hexuan belonged to happened to be the same team as Xia Ruize, so the three of them could go together for the next mission.

Liu Wennian was the temporary leader of the squad. He pulled the soldiers into the same internal channel, quickly asked each soldier about their expertise, and tried to arrange the most suitable formation in the shortest time.

Cheng Huaiqian was good at close combat, Xia Ruize was good at long-range combat. Gao Hexuan hesitated for a moment and decisively reported he was good at long-range combat.

Liu Wennian quickly distributed the simple formation diagram to his soldiers, and then gave an order and rushed towards the direction of their assigned mission.

Xia Ruize and Gao Hexuan were placed in the middle of the squad, and Cheng Huai was on the outside of the squad. Fortunately, the three of them were very close to each other.

The combat qualities of the soldiers hidden in the metal mechas could be best seen at this moment. Those soldiers with rich combat experience quickly found their positions according to the formation diagram, while the young soldiers with insufficient experience could only follow in a panic, trying to find their positions without disrupting the formation.

Xia Ruize in the sensor cabin started running, causing the huge metal mecha to run as well. Every step he took left a huge footprint on the sandy ground beneath his feet.

Amid the sounds of “boom…”, nearly a thousand mechas started moving at the same time, making an astonishing noise.

Fortunately, the soldiers had different mission directions, and soon the area around the temporary camp became quiet. Only a hundred crooked mechas began their daily patrols under the command of the pioneer team captain.

While controlling the mecha to run, Xia Ruize kept trying various movements, and his proficiency in controlling the mecha became higher and higher. Cheng Huaiqian next to him became even more excited, and even started to perform various flashy operating skills such as forward and backward somersaults while running.

Xia Ruize was not that unsteady. After getting familiar with the controls of the mecha, he began to gesture to familiarize himself with the weapons. Whether it was the high-energy electromagnetic shockwave gun on his arm or the sealing bow on his back, they were all long-range weapons that Xia Ruize was naturally good at due to his bloodline. He quickly went from being unfamiliar with them to being proficient in them.

While running, Xia Ruize noticed that the originally simple blank topographic map was filled with more elements starting from the red dot in the center, and the blank space was much more detailed and accurate. It seemed that this was the result of sending each team to explore the terrain in person.

Unfortunately, after 20 minutes, the topographic maps in all directions except the one the squad was exploring were no longer updated. Liu Wennian specifically reminded them:

“We have left the coverage of the temporary base’s star network. Next, the mecha formation will shrink. Everyone should be alert and report any situation immediately. You must not slow down or fall behind without reason. If you leave the 300-meter local area network range, it will not be fun to lose contact on this strange planet.”

Liu Wennian’s tone was light, but the warning in it made everyone pay extra attention. The distance between mechas was shortened for fear of being left behind accidentally.

After climbing over three sand slopes, the unchanging yellow sandy scenery around them began to change. At the end of everyone’s sight, a dark green forest appeared, like an oasis in the desert.

Seeing the oasis, Liu Wennian, who was running at the front of the squad, suddenly slowed down and ordered the squad to rest for five minutes.

Before setting off again, Liu Wennian distributed two new formation diagrams to everyone’s screen, marking the two most commonly used formations in the oasis forest environment, and asked his soldiers to familiarize themselves with them in advance.

The oasis was seen in everyone’s sight, but it actually took them nearly half an hour to finally get close. From a distance, the oasis looked low, but when they got closer, they found that it was very huge, with trees of different heights. The tall trees were over a hundred meters tall, and the short banana trees and vines were more than ten meters tall.

Compared with the forest that blocked out the sun, the more than 3-meter-tall metal mecha looked like a small toy.

Liu Wennian led the squad to stop thirty meters away from the edge of the oasis. He seemed to have discussed something privately with the other four team leaders. Then he selected ten people from the squad members and led the small team personally to enter the oasis to explore, while the other soldiers stayed outside the oasis and waited for the situation.

Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian’s mechas were next to each other, obviously closer than the other fighters. The two watched Liu Wennian’s mecha enter the jungle and quickly disappear behind the layers of plants. Xia Ruize whispered:

“I don’t feel well. This jungle makes me feel uncomfortable.”

Cheng Huaiqian’s vigilance immediately increased by another two points. He naturally knew that his lover’s bloodline talent was very advantageous in the natural environment. Coupled with his super high mental strength, even through the heavy mecha, Xia Ruize felt uncomfortable, so there must be something wrong with the oasis.

The soldiers outside the oasis were on alert and waiting quietly. Less than ten minutes later, they heard unusual movements coming from the depths of the jungle. There was a faint flash of dazzling light, which was the effect of the high-energy electromagnetic shock wave gun when used.

“Team 4608, 4708, follow me.”

At the command of the leader of Cheng Huaiqian’s team, more than ten mechas started to move. Xia Ruize and Cheng Huaiqian were among them, following them and rushing into the oasis.

Gao Hexuan, who was studying the local area network of this mission world, accidentally noticed that his two big teammates were missing. He subconsciously took two steps forward, but was stopped by his team leader. He could only watch the shaking leaves return to calm.
